Stepanians hat trick paces Men's Soccer to 6-1 Win over AHC

 

On a night when the GCC Men's Soccer Team played one of its best games of the year, sophomore Derik Stepanins shone brightest as the Glendale College Men's Soccer Team triumphed over the Allan Hancock Bulldogs with a convincing 6-1 victory at home at Sartoris Field. The win further solidified Glendale's position as a formidable force in community college soccer as they improved to 5-0-1 with the win and they are ranked No. 7 in the state by the CCCAA.

Entering the game with an impressive 4-0-1 record, Glendale was determined to maintain their unbeated streak, and they did not disappoint their fans. The game kicked off with high intensity, and it didn't take long for the Vaqueros to seize control.

At the 10-minute mark, the crowd erupted as J.P. Crispi of Glendale College found the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the game. This early lead set the tone for what was to come.

Derik Stepanians emerged as the star of the match for Glendale, demonstrating his offensive prowess by netting three goals to give him seven for the season. His standout performance put GCC firmly in the driver's seat. Glendale not only secured the first two goals of the game but also effectively stifled Allan Hancock's attempts to respond.

Despite a valiant effort from the Bulldogs, they managed to pull one goal back, making the score 3-1 at the end of the first half. However, the Vaqueros remained resilient and were able to maintain their lead throughout the rest of the game.

Glendale College's outstanding performance was a testament to their skill, teamwork, and determination. The first goal by Stepanians came on an assist by Vincente Sanchez and his second near the end of the first half made it 3-1. Subsequent goals by Stepanians in the second half, Cesar Crespo assisted by Malkoon Malkoon and the final score was notched by Monte Almasi on an assist by Abraham Rivera. Goalie  Tigran Malumyan had three saves to pace the defensive effort. 

In the latest CCCAA rankings, Glendale College finds themselves tied for the No. 7 spot in the state, alongside Merced College. With their remarkable record and consistent displays of excellence on the field, Glendale College is poised for a promising season ahead.
