Austin Kuromi wins race to lead GCC Men's Cross Country to team win in Moorpark Invitational

The Glendale College men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first race in 21 months at the Moorpark Invitational. The Lady Vaqueros took first place scoring a total of 32 points with all freshman runners. They were led by Destiny Lopez who finished 4th in a time of 20:09. Also making their Glendale debuts were Karla Sanchez (20:20), Aleksandra Martinez (20:49), Maria Martinez (20:49), and Jordan Guzman (21"16), who took 7th, 9th, 10th, and 13th place, respectively to finish up the top five scoring runners. Other Lady Vaqueros to cross the finish line were Norma Martinez (23:16), Xinix Perla (24:50), and Vanessa Portillo (30:27).  

The men's team would also take first place in a total of 25 points, with the top seven runners also being comprised entirely of freshman. Austin Kuromi went on to win the race in a time of 21:00. He was followed by Southern Utah University transfer Ethan Danforth who took 3rd in a time of 21:32. Joseph Forsyth (21:44), Roberto Morales (21:52), and Luis Juarez (22:09) took 5th, 8th, and 10th, respectively finishing up the top five scorers. Rounding out the top seven was Kevin Vasquez who took 16th in a time of 23:17 and Abdiel Quero who took 19th in a time of 23:25. Glendale will compete next at the Mark Covert Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, September 4
