Cross country teams compete in Mt. SAC invitational; Women take third place, men take fourth

The cross-country teams took part in the Mt. Sac Invitational Friday, with the women racing in a traditional 3-mile course and the men in a 4-mile course. The women took 4th place as a team scoring a total of 101 points, with the top two runners resting for the competition. Destiny Lopez would be the first Glendale runner to cross the finish line taking 9th overall in a time of 19:57. Aleksandra Martinez (20:23) followed Lopez in 14th place, and her sister Maria Martinez (21:07) took 23rd place. The final two runners of the race, who were also the remaining scorers, were Xinix Perla (24:00) who took 47th place and Vanessa Portillo (32:33) who came across in 68th place.

On the men's side, the team scored a total of 92 points, which gave them 3rd place as a team. They were led by Roberto Morales who took 12th place in a time of 22:01. Luis Juarez took 16th place in a time of 22:23 and he was immediately followed by Ezequiel Soto who took 17th in a time of 22:31. Joseph Forsyth (22:56) and Sheldon Watanabe (24:06) were the final scoring runners taking 21st and 47th, respectively. Other runners to finish the tough Mt. Sac course were Austin Kuromi (24:32), Morgan Faunce (24:37), Ethan Danforth (25:03), Abdiel Quero (25:31), Kevin Vasquez (25:34), and Kevin Kiely (38:27). The Vaqueros will now prepare for the Western State Conference Championships Friday, October 22nd at Legg Lake in El Monte. The race will be hosted by Glendale.
