Sierra Ruvalcaba tosses a no-hitter to highlight a 10-0 win over Cuesta Jan. 28 in the David "Hawk" Wilder Tournament

A five-inning no-hitter from sophomore Sierra Ruvalcaba in a 10-0 win over Cuesta College Saturday Jan. 27 was the highlight for the GCC Softball team during the two-day 18th annual David "Hawk" Wilder softball tournament hosted by the Lady Vaqs at the Glendale Sports Complex. Glendale opened up the tourney with a 20-0 win over Cerro Coso College on Friday Jan. 27 and then fell to San Diego Mesa College 6-1 that evening. Following the win over Cuesta, GCC fell to Ventura College 8-3 to finish the four-game tourney 2-2.

Highlights from the Cuesta win and other tourney games:

Sophomore Sierra Ruvalcaba five-inning no-hitter (2 K's) vs. Cuesta in 10-0 win.
Also had a single and RBI at the plate.
Cuesta only managed to hit one ball out of the infield the entire game (fly out in the 5th)
Cuesta had won their first 3 games of the tournament (over ELAC, AVC, & L.A. Valley) by a combined score of 28-6.

Sophomore Ginger Duncan had a run-scoring triple to start the scoring in the first & also walked & scored 2 runs.

Freshman Jayleen Piedra had 3 hits inc. a double and 2 RBI's. (8 for 15, 7 RBI's, over all in tourney).

Sophomore Jimena Ibarra had 3 hits inc. 2 doubles and 2 RBI's.

Freshman Samantha Valenzuela had 2 hits & 2 RBI's.

Freshman Mya Chacon had a single & RBI. (7 for 12, 2 BB's, 2 RBI's, SB overall in tourney).

Glendale continues play this week with games Wednesday Feb. 1 at Pasadena City College at 2:30 PM and at San Diego Southwestern College Saturday Feb. 4 for a doubleheader at noon and 2 pm.
