.GCC Men and Women's Track and Field competed in WSC Inland Meet April 1

The Track & Field team returned to action this past Friday at the WSC Inland meet in Bakersfield. The men's team took 2nd place scoring a total of 130 points. In the 800m, Glendale took 1st through 3rd place with Shannon Turner winning it in a time of 1:57.47. He was followed by Nick Serrano (2:00.78) and Kevin Vasquez (2:02.15). Julius Largaespada took 6th place in a time of 2:07.65. Kevin Kiely also ran the 800m in a time of 2:35.73. The Vaqs took 3rd through 6th place in the 1500m, with Roberto Morales taking 3rd in a time of 4:05.68. He was followed by Luis Juarez (4:06.41), Nick Serrano (4:11.76), and Kevin Vasquez (4:13.05). Others to take part in the 1500m were Austin Kuromi (4:15.50), Julius Largaespada (4:15.53), Abdiel Quero (4:19.08), Jorge Ramirez (4:23.32), Sheldon Watanabe (4:30.33), Morgan Faunce (4:32.30), and Kevin Kiely (5:01.52). In the 3000m, Luis Juarez took 3rd place in a time of 8:59.28, with Roberto Morales (9:17.61) and Jorge Ramirez (9:22.05) coming in 4th and 5th place, respectively. Morgan Faunce also finished the 3000m in a time of 9:39.81. The 4x400m relay team ran their first race of the season in a time of 3:28.64 for 2nd place. In the field events, Joziah Hernandez took 3rd place clearing 10'6". Gerardo Becerra (42'8.25") and Kevin Gomez (40'7") took 1st and 2nd in the shot put, with John Westwood (37'5.75") taking 4th and Julius Dawoodtabar (34'10.5") taking 5th. Lincoln Guerrero (33'3") and Michael Bomar (28'9") also took part in the shot put. Gerardo Becerra also won the discus with a toss of 128'10". Lincoln Guerrero (103'10") took 4th place and John Westwood (103'4") took 5th place. Julius Dawoodtabar (95'1") and Michael Bomar (91'8") also had strong finishes in the discus. Kevin Gomez took 1st in the hammer with a throw of 149'2" with Lincoln Guerrero taking 4th place with a toss of 115'1". In the javelin, Julio Aguayo (138'6") took 2nd place with Edward Jones (129'5") coming in 4th. Michael Bomar had a toss of 69'11" in the javelin as well.

 

The women's team took 4th place scoring a total of 55.5 points. Karla Sanchez had a PR in the 800m taking 2nd in a time of 2:27.10. In the 1500m, Destiny Lopez took 4th in a time of 5:03.02, with Karla Sanchez coming in 5th in a time of 5:09.29. Aleksandra Martinez would follow Sanchez in a time of 5:16.31, with Norma Martinez taking 10th place in a time of 5:46.58. Destiny Lopez took 3rd in the 3000m race in a time of 11:24.36, with Aleksandra Martinez (11:32.17) and Norma Martinez (12:42.73) taking 5th and 8th place, respectively. In the field events, Vanessa Portillo won both the shot put (31'10") and javelin (103'10"). Xochilt Monfil took 2nd place in the hammer with a toss of 106'2" and 3rd place in discus with a throw of 77'2". The track and field team will host the Vaquero Classic on April 8 and 9, with the hammer and javelin being contested on April 8 at El Camino College.
