COD Softball sweeps COD Tri, 8-0 & 8-6

COD (17-5) grabbed their 6th straight win, 8th in 9 games, as the Roadrunners swept a day-night doubleheader over the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors and the Glendale Vaqueros, 8-0 and 8-6.

The Roadrunners played against Imperial Valley for the first time in program history in 1985, back when they were knows as the Arabs, and hold a 38-15 overall record against the Desert Warriors. Desert has a 15-6 record against the Desert Warriors in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert swept a home-at-home series over Imperial Valley, winning in Palm Desert on February 7, 5-3 and winning at Imperial on February 12, 18-9. The Roadrunners played against Glendale for the first time in program history in 1991 and hold a 14-7 overall record against the Vaqueros. Desert has a 5-4 record against the Vaqueros in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert swept a double header at Glendale, winning on March 1, 7-3 and 13-0 in 6 innings.

In game one, Desert waited until the very last minute to get their bats going, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and another four runs in the bottom of the sixth to mercy the Desert Warriors, 8-0 in six innings. In game two, the Roadrunners went back-and-forth with Glendale, taking a lead in the fourth and then holding on for their sixth consecutive win of the season, 8-6. Freshman right fielder and designated player Alyssa Martinez Sanchez (La Quinta H.S.) went 2 for 6 with a run scored and 5 runs batted in, out of the 3-hole in the lineup, over the course of the double header. Freshman catcher Sidney Sherrod (Palm Desert H.S.) went 5 for 7 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs out of the clean-up spot in both games. Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Cadence Krisell (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) started game one and tossed a complete game, striking out 4 over the course of 6 innings of work.

The Roadrunners will resume Inland Empire Athletic Conference play on March 19 at 12p, when they host the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville. The Roadrunners played against Victor Valley for the first time in program history in 1988 and hold a 45-14 overall record against the Rams. Desert has a 22-8 record against the Rams in Palm Desert.
