2012 GCC Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
2002 Baseball Team - Outstanding Team
The 2002 GCC Baseball team won a school record 34 games under head coach Jon Strauss and hosted the first Junior College Playoff Regional in school history and the Western State Conference Southern Division title. Strauss was named the WSC Coach of the Year that season and Starting pitcher Jon Felfoldi was named WSC Co-Player of the Year. Thirteen players from that team earned All-WSC honors for the Vaqueros including All-WSC first team relief pitcher Marco Estrada who is playing Major League Baseball as a relief pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jim Sartoris - Outstanding Coach
Jim Sartoris played at Glendale College in 1962-63 and earned All=American Honors for the Vaqueros in 1963 under GCC Hall of Fame Coach Don Bennitt. He transferred to the University of Washington and played football for the Huskies in 1964 and 1966. He returned to coach football at Glendale as an assistant in 1967 and he became Head Football Coach in 1972. His record of 111-64-1 in 17 seasons as head coach from 1972-88 as a school record and his teams won four of seven bowl games. He was the GCC Athletic Director and Division Chair from 1985 until his retirement in 2007 and remained as assistant coach with the football team until that time. The refurbished football field was named the Sartoris Field in his honor in 2005 and he became the commissioner of Southern California Football Association in 2008.
Tove Berg - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Tove Berg ran cross country and track and field for the Vaqueros in 2006-2008 and arguably one of the best female distance runners to ever wear a Glendale uniform. She was the No. 1 runner for the 2006 state championship women’s cross country team for GCC and won two individual state titles in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters in track and field for the Lady Vaqs in 2007 and 2008. She hold school records in the 3,000-, 5,000-, and 10,000-meter events.
Dale Logie - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
A tremendous football player for the Vaqueros, Dale Logie earned All-American honors for Glendale in 1972 under Head Coach Jim Sartoris. An All-City Section Performer from Franklin High School in Los Angeles, Logie went on to star at USC and was a member of the Trojans’ 1974 National Championship football team coached my Jon McKay. Logie returned to GCC as an assistant football coach in 1976-1977 and later became the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Flintridge Prep High Schol in La Canada.
Chet Williams - Meritorious Service
Chet Willliams played football at Glendale College in 1978 and 1979 but he has never really left college. He was a first-team All-Western Conference Linebacker for the Vaqueros in 1979 and later transferred to play football at Washington State University. His dedication to Glendale College can be measured in many other ways; as a consistent supporter of Glendale College Athletics through the Hall of Fame and the Golf tournament as well as being a donor of the Glendale College Foundation. He also volunteers his time to speak to the student-athletes at GCC and is the founding President of the GCC alumni Football group.
Colonel James D. McGinley - Pillar of Achievement
Before he earned the rank of Colonel in the United Sates Marine Corps Reserve, James D. McGinley was a tremendous water polo player and swimmer for Glendale College from 1977-79, earning all-conference and Most Valuable Defensive Player awards for the Vaqueros. He went on to crew in the four- and eight-man boats with coxswain at UCLA in the 1979-80, and earned his Jurist Doctorate at the Pepperdine School of Law in 1991. He retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 2012 after a 30-year career which included earning the Bronze Star and serving three tours of service in the Middle East.
