Glendale Community College offers a comprehensive and competitive intercollegiate athletic program sanctioned by the 3C2A.  The Vaqueros are proudly represented in the Western State Conference (WSC) and Southern California Football Association (SCFA).  Vaquero Athletics offers 16 sports for both men and women student athletes.   Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field, while women’s sports feature basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, soccer, indoor volleyball, tennis, track and field, and softball.

The athletic programs are guided by experienced coaches, professional experts and supported by a dedicated staff, including certified athletic trainers who ensures the health and safety of all student-athletes. The backbone of the student athlete academic success is at the Center for Academic Success in Athletics (CASA), The CASA hosts a full-time Success Specialist and two academic counselors whom provide support services such as educational planning, enrollment advisement, and career guidance, helping athletes balance their commitment to both academics and competition.

With newly renovated facilities at the Vaquero Athletic Complex, student athletes have access to a state-of-the-art weight room, team rooms and locker room facilities.  Glendale Community College continues to provide student-athletes with the tools they need to succeed.  State Champions, Southern California Champions, and Conference Champions have been plentiful at GCC and we look forward for more to come.

The Vaquero Academic and Athletic Leadership Team (VAALT) is a service group that consists of representatives from all 16 Vaquero teams. This select group of student athletes meets monthly to provide a voice on behalf of all student athletes at GCC. VAALT serves as a forum to provide perspective regarding the student athlete experience, as well as athletic programming, community outreach projects, local/state legislation, and GCC issues such as Representation, Equity, Anti-Racism, Diversity and Inclusion. The VAALT is responsible for communicating information on upcoming events to their teams and coaches while working together to create unity among all athletic programs.

Title IX Overview

Title IX of the 1972 Education Act is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs which receive federal funding. Title IX specifically states:

Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA)

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act requires co-educational institutions of postsecondary education that participate in a Title IV, federal student financial assistance program, and have an intercollegiate athletic program, to prepare an annual report to the Department of Education on athletic participation, staffing, and revenues and expenses, by men's and women's teams. The Department will use this information in preparing its required report to the Congress on gender equity in intercollegiate athletics.

Statute and Regulations

The Higher Education Opportunity Act (Public Law 110-315) (HEOA) was enacted on August 14, 2008. This law reauthorizes and extends the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. The Higher Education Act (HEA) provides the statutory authority for most of the programs and activities administered or conducted by the Office of Postsecondary Education, including requirements related to equity in athletics disclosure.

These regulations govern the consumer disclosure requirements for institutions that participate in the Federal student financial assistance programs.
