College of the Canyons worked for its second conference win Tuesday night, with a pair of goals from freshman Alejandro Zalamea boosting the Cougars to a 2-0 victory over visiting Glendale College.
Canyons (4-12-2, 2-5) had previously dropped a 3-0 result in its last meeting with Glendale back in October, however this time around the Cougars controlled the pace.
Glendale (4-10-2, 2-4) put up a fight working for 10 total shots in the match, but COC goalkeeper Hunter Maiden (3-9-1) stood strong between the posts for 90 minutes, recording three saves and picking up the win.
Zalamea put the Cougars up 1-0 right before the end of the first half when the ball pinballed around in the box, landed at his feet and he drove it home.
Canyons' second goal came in the 62nd minute when sophomore Gage Fritz lobbed a ball that met Zalamea on a diving run. One touch to the left and the Saugus High School alum found the back of the net once more.
The Cougars kept Vaqueros' goalkeeper Arvin Navasartian on his toes throughout his 90 minutes. Navasartian closed out the night with eight saves on COC's 14 shots, while conceding the two goals against.
Canyons next hosts Bakersfield College on Friday, Nov. 8 for a 6 p.m. start time before heading to Citrus College on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for a 3 p.m. kick-off.
