Vaqueros down Gauchos 11-5

In a battle of two of the top ranked teams in Southern California, Glendale College gave up a home game Tuesday due to wet field conditions to travel to Mission Viejo and beat Saddleback College 11-5.
The Vaqs posted six runs in the second inning and one more in the fourth to lead 7-1 as the potent Gauchos offense was held at bay by starting pitcher Marco Quintanar, who allowed three runs and seven hits in his five innings of work to improve to 2-1 this year. Relievers Max DeAmicis pitched a scoreless inning in the sixth and then James Giambalvo took the mound for the final three innings to earn his second save of the season.
Offensively for GCC, Frank Garriola and Christian Montes had three hits each as the Vaqueros banged out 14 hits on the day against seven Saddleback pitchers. Montes also had a pair of RBI doubles as Thad Wilson, John Malott and Sergio Ray also had a pair of hits each.
The win improves Glendale's record to 8-3 as they prepare for the rest of the week's schedule, home games Thursday against L.A. Harbor College at 2 pm at Stengel Field, at Golden West College Friday at 2 pm and host Golden West College Saturday at 1 pm.
