A brief two-game respite from conference play this week did nothing to slow doing the surging GCC Baseball team as it won its 18th straight game 13-5 at home Friday April 15 to improve to 28-5 overall this season. Glendale is ranked No. 2 in Southern California and No. 3 in the state.

Reserve infielder Tommy Italia led the way for the Vaqs offensively with four hits, three RBI and two runs scored to pace the 14-hit Glendale attack. Izzy Madariaga and Alex Laureano had two hits each, with each hitting doubles as did Alex Mills. Starting pitcher Julian Jaramillo pitched five innings to get the win to improve to 3-0 and Brooks Snyder, Brandon Doehne, Joseph Estrada and Matt Tamura provided solid relief as Glendale trailed 3-1 in the fifth inning and scored 12 unanswered runs before Pierce scored twice in the ninth inning.

GCC faces WSC South opponent L.A. Valley College in a three-game series starting Tuesday April 19 at 2:30 pm at Stengel Field as well as Thursday Paril 21 at Valley at 2:30 pm and Saturday April 23 at 1 pm at Stengel Field. The Vaqs are 15-0 in conference play and have a six-game lead over second place Valley and have clinched at least a tie for the conference title and any win over the Monarchs this week will clinch the 2022 outright for Glendale.
