2024 GCC Baseball season ends with playoff losses to Cuesta College May 4-5
The 2024 season ended for the Glendale College Baseball Team with a pair of losses to host Cuesta College in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs May 3-5 in the best two out of three series. GCC took the first game 25-6 Friday May 3 but lost the second game 15-5 May 4 before the third game was suspended because of rain with the game tied 4-4 in the 5th inning. The completion of that game took place Sunday May 5 and the Vaqs fell 14-13 to end the season at 26-16.
 
In the game that was suspended Saturday and continued play Sunday, the Vaqs led 11-4 after scoring five runs in the seventh inning but Cuesta came back with eight of its own in the seventh to lead12-11 before Ethan Kearney hit a two-run homer to make it 13-12 GCC in the 8th inning. Cuesta was able to score twice in the ninth inning to provide the one run margin of victory and advance to the Super Regionals May 8-10. 
 
Ethan Pena had four hits for GCC including a double and Kearney had three hits and four RBI. Jackson Benattar had two hits including a double and a home run that tied the game at 4-4 in the 5th inning Saturday before play was suspended. Sam Grunberg had a pair of homers for his two hits and Alex Leureano also had two hits including a double.  Starting pitcher Shane Aldrete went four innings and was releived by Daniel Neria, Juan Rodriguez and Joseph Perez.
