In a thoroughly dominating performance on the mound and at the plate, the GCC Baseball Team opened up Western State Conference Southern Division play with an 18-4 win over College of the Canyons Tuesday March 4 at Stengel Field.
Now 9-8-1 overall, the Glendale offense pounded out 15 hits that included hitting five home runs and four doubles but it was pitching effort of starter John Trainor that set the tone for the GCC win as the freshman improving to 4-0 this season and struck out nine in his six shutout innings of work and allowed just one hit and lowered his ERA to 0.43 this season. Juan Rodriguez and Austin Nimri pitched in relief of Trainor. Offensively, Mike Bang hit a pair of 3-run homers and had six RBI, the second homer came in a nine run seventh inning when the Vaqs extended a 7-2 lead to 16-2 . Alex Dolan had three hits including a homer and Jake Price had two doubles, Ethan Pena had two hits including s homer and Andrew Garcia also had two hits.
