The ability to adapt to change will be critical to the success of the GCC Football Team for the 2019 season. Late summer changes to the coaching staff could have sent the team reeling but the stability from Head Coach John Rome and a strong group of returners and freshman gives the squad reason to be optimistic heading into the home opener against Antelope Valley Sept. 7 at Sartoris Field.

Coming off of a 3-7 season in 2018, the Vaqueros will have the benefit of the return of several experienced players at critical positions including quarterback Nathan Eldridge, running back Adayus Robertson as well as receivers Jalen Lawrence and Christopher Lee, all starters as freshmen last year.

Another strength will be the offensive line which not only has several starters returning, but will be a group which has as much depth as any position on the team.

The major question marks from this year's squad will come on defense where and handful of returners will be counted on to provide leadership for the newcomers who will need to get up to speed quickly for the 2019 Vaqs to be successful.

Nathan Eldridge to Jalen Lawrence: That passing combination accounted for five touchdowns and over 400 yards receiving by Lawrence and almost half of the 1,066 yards that Eldridge threw as both we're freshman in 2018 for Glendale. Eldridge enters the season bigger and stronger with a year behind center under his belt and Lawrence could emerge as one of the best receivers in school history with his sprinter's speed.
