The promise of the 2022 Glendale College Football Team was on display 17 seconds into the season opener on the road Saturday Sept. 3 at Saddleback College when sophomore receiver Artis Cole hauled in a 75-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Nick Garcia. That momentum helped propel the visiting Vaqueros to a 16-10 halftime lead before falling to the host Bobcats 30-16.

"Very pleased with how we started. We have to close out games in the second half in all three phases,'' said Interim head Football Coach Tanner Farwell. "Our offensive line and special teams made too many mistakes in the second half. But I'm very pleased with our defense but we've got to make improvements this week because Victor Valley is a good team.''

Garcia passed for 244 yards on 20 completions in 35 attempts and two touchdowns including a 15-yard scoring toss to Nick Johnson with 28 seconds left in the first half that gave the Vaqs a six-point advantage after the extra point was missed by John Delgado. Delgado connected on a 21-yard field goal at the 8:34 mark of the second quarter for a 10-7 Glendale lead.

Brandon Pena led the receiving corps with five catches for 64 yards, Johnson caught four balls for 45 yards and one TD and Cole had three catches for 91 yards and one touchdown. Enrique Henry Diaz had 10 tackles on defense and Sebastian De Leon had eight stop and Jordan Trice returned an interception 13 yards.

Glendale hits the road for the second straight week against Victor Valley College, 0-1, Saturday Sept. 10 at 6 pm at Victor Valley High School.
