On a day when Glendale College saluted its veterans, the football teams from GCC and Pasadena City College waged a battle of their own in a Pacific League contest at Sartoris Field with the visitors coming out on top, 12-0. The loss dropped Glendale's record to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
With veterans from all branches of service represented in the stands and on the field, it was clear from the outset that the battle on the field was going to be won on the line of scrimmage as both teams made it clear that it was going to be a run first, pass much less strategy as Pasadena could manage only a field goal in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
That lead expanded to the final score of 12-0 but there was no doubt on both sides of the ball as both teams combined for 90 rush attempts that the ability to establish a strong rushing effort was a priority with D.J. Cole running for 53 yards on 23 attempts and quarterback Jackson Askins passing for just 19 yards on five completions in seven attempts. Defensively, Sebastian Herrate had a big game with 18 tackles, 12 solo and Colin Farhberger had 12 stops, four solo. Dario Sandoval had two sacks to increase his state leading total to 12.5.
Glendale closes out the regular season with a 1 pm contest Saturday Nov. 16 against L.A. Southwest College where the sophomores playing their last game on Sartoris Field will be honored.
