Coach Fonua joins the Glendale staff after several years coaching at the community college level. He played football at Ulysses S. Grant High School in the Valley and continued his playing career at Los Angeles Valley College and Texas Christian University. At Valley, Coach Fonua is proud to say he learned his craft under respected coaches Leon Criner, the DC, and defensive line coach Julio Gramaho. His decision to attend TCU, a NCAA Division 1 four-year school, as a student-athlete was based on the culture of the program and the type of defense they played. At Valley he was named the scholar-athlete of the year for 2006-07 and also earned the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award that year. At TCU, he was named to the All-Mountain West Academic All-Conference Team for the year 2007-08. He is married to Salote Fonua and his son is Sioeli.
