Back-To-Back WSC Titles for the Men's Track & Field Team

The Glendale College Track & Field squad concluded their Regular Season competition Friday at Ventura College with the men's team repeating as Western State Conference Champions, beating West Los Angeles College by 4 points. They were able to hold onto a 2-point lead going into the Javelin, with Jack Berman sealing the Team title, finishing second with a PR of 47.18 meters (154'7"). Other strong performances from the Men's throwers that contributed to another title included Adam Theard finishing 5th in the Hammer with a toss of 41.08 meters (134'7") as well as finishing 6th in the Shot Put with a throw of 12.93 meters (42'4").

 

Other standout performances from the Track events include Raymond Lopez, who took home the WSC Titles in both the 5K (15:02.86) and the 10K (32:09.20), while finishing 4th in the 1500m (4:03.55). Other long-distance performances included: Marcelo Ramirez taking 2nd in the 5K with a PR of 15:04.33 and taking 4th in the 10K (33:27.85), with Akol Malong taking 6th (15:53.58), and Antonio Arroyo finishing 7th (15:58.68). Glendale Men managed to take 1-4 in the 1500m with Paulo Vazquez taking the title with a time 4:01.33; Marcelo Ramirez taking 2nd with a time of 4:02.43; Carlos Rivera in 3rd with a time of 4:03.07; and of course, Raymond Lopez finishing 4th. In the 800m race Carlos Rivera took 3rd with a PR of 1:57.32, and Paulo Vazquez finishing 7th with a time of 1:59.52.

 

As for the Sprinters, the standout athlete was Nikolas Clater who was able to take second in the 400m Hurdles, running a PR of 54.70. Clater was also able to take 3rd place in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 16.52. The 4x400 relay team finished 4th with a season-best of 3:23.86.

 

On the Women's side, Val-Larriee Brantley was able to take home the WSC title in the Hammer throw with a toss of 40.95 meters (134'3"). She also took 3rd in the Shot Put (10.25meters), with her teammate Deja Marsh taking 5th (9.92meters). Jennifer Cazares also took home a Title in her first ever 10k race with a time of 40:21.71 and finished 2nd in the 5K with a time of 18:36.11. Daisy Romero took 8th in the 1500m race with a time of 5:09.98. In the 800m, Jazmin Negro finished 6th with a PR of 2:23.35 with Daisy Romero finishing 9th (2:29.61). In the Steeplechase Genesis Siam-Alvarez had a huge 28-second PR taking 2nd in the Steeplechase, with Ramina Padashi Fard taking 5th with a season best of 12:51.95.

 

The Track & Field Team will now prepare for SoCal Preliminaries this weekend at San Diego Mesa College.
