Men & Women's Track and Field Teams compete in WSC South Meet Feb. 25

The Vaqueros competed in their first conference scoring meet of the season Feb, 25 at Antelope Valley College. The men's team took 2nd place scoring a total of 108 points. On the track, Shannon Turner took the 800m victory in a time of 2:00.02, with Austin Kuromi not far behind in a time of 2:01.59 to give him a 3rd place finish. Others to compete in the 800m were Kevin Vasquez (2:05.24), Julius Largaespada (2:06.06), Nick Serrano (2:09.81), and Kevin Kiely (2:43.94). The 1500m race saw 11 Glendale competitors including: Austin Kuromi (4:13.09), Julius Largaespada (4:14.06), Luis Juarez (4:15.01), Kevin Vasquez (4:17.38), Roberto Morales (4:19.78), Sheldon Watanabe (4:21.73), Abdiel Quero (4:22.38), Nick Serrano (4:23.26), Jorge Ramirez (4:26.98), Morgan Faunce (4:34.42), and Kevin Kiely (5:16.64). Luis Juarez took 1st place in the 300m race with a time of 9:12.75, with Jorge Ramirez (9:21.42) and Roberto Morales (9:21.51) coming in 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Others in the 300m race were Abdiel Quero who finished in a time of 9:35.09 and Morgan Faunce who crossed in a time of 9:41.24. In the field events, Joziah Hernandez took 2nd place in the pole vault clearing 10'6" for a seasonal best. Kevin Gomez went on to win the shot put (39'2.25") and hammer (144'3") for a second straight week. Others to compete in the shot put were John Westwood (36'0.25"), Julius Dawoodtabar (34'5"), Gerrardo Becerra (34'1.25"), Lincoln Guerrero (31'8") and Michael Bomar (31'1.25"). Lincoln Guerrero also took 4th place in the hammer with a toss of 98'1". In the discus, Gerrardo Becerra had another PR with a toss of 125'11" for a 2nd place finish. Lincoln Guerrero (101'3)," John Westwood (99'11"), Julius Dawoodtabar (95'9"), Michael Bomar (82'11"), and Garno Amirian (67'2") were the others to compete in the discus. Finally, Julio Aguayo continued his winning streak in the javelin with a PR of 138'8". Edward Jones took 3rd in the event with a toss of 125'5", with Garno Amirian throwing a seasonal best of 77'1".

On the women's side, Karla Sanchez took 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:34.35, with Xinix Perla coming in 5th in a time of 2:46.75. Sanchez also took 1st in the 1500m with a time of 5:01.72. Destiny Lopez (5:12.05) and Aleksandra Martinez (5:24.83) would take 4th and 5th, respectively in the 1500m as well. Norma Martinez came in 10th with a time of 5:48.93. In the 3000m race, Destiny Lopez (11:33.08) and Aleksandra Martinez (11:39.41) took 1st and 2nd place, respectively. Also racing in the 3000m was Jordan Guzman (12:25.07) and Norma Martinez (12:47.30). In the field events, Vanessa Portillo had a season PR of 109'7" in the javelin and took 2nd in shot put with a toss of 30''5". In the hammer, Xochilt Monfil threw a personal best of 105'0" for a 3rd place finish. Monfil also had a toss of 24'3" in the shot put and 78'0" in the discus.
