GCC Men and Women's Track & Field has solid results in WSC South Meet Feb. 28

The sunny conditions at the start of the day gave way to windier conditions towards the end, but that didn't deter the athletes from putting up strong performances.
 
Men's Highlights:
  • Freshman Maxwell Harvey had a standout performance in the high jump, securing third place with a jump of 1.85 meters.
  • Julien Rivera, also a freshman, placed second in the javelin with a new personal record of 41.07 meters.
  • Juan Zamora III ran a strong 3000m race, setting a new personal record of 9:07.04 to take second place.
Women's Highlights:
  • Sophomore Lilit Arakelyan showed impressive tactical racing in the women's 1500m, finishing second with a time of 4:58.07. She returned later in the day to dominate the 3000m, winning with a time of 10:54.00.
  • Freshman Rashel-Alvarez Chavez had a major breakthrough, running a new personal record of 5:23.04 in the 1500m, a 13-second improvement from her previous best.
