GCC Women take 3rd, Men take 8th in state meet; Julius Largaespada sets school record with 3rd place finish

The Cross Country teams concluded their season this past Saturday at the CCCAA State Championship race in Fresno. The women took third place, scoring a total of 159 points. They were able to beat out the heavily favored Clovis College by one point for a podium spot. Leading the women was All-American Samantha Medrano who placed 11th in a time of 18:50. Destiny Lopez was not far behind Medrano taking 15th place in a time of 19:02. Carina Langley came across the finish line in 36th place with a time of 19:47. The final two scoring runners were Aleksandra Martinez who took 55th place in a time of 20:27 and Norma Martinez who took 85th place in a time of 21:27. Daniela Ponce-Barban had a strong finish to her season taking 149th in a time of 24:59.

 

   The men took eighth place, scoring a total of 230 points. They were led by Julius Largaespada who finished third in a time of 20:09 and was able to break the school cross country record. Jorge Ramirez followed Largaespada taking 39th place in a time of 21:15. Rounding out the top scoring runners were Abdiel Quero (21:32) who took 59th place, Nicolas Diconti (21:41) who took 68th place, and Kevin Vasquez (21:55) who took 80th place. The final Glendale runners to cross the finish line were Jeremiah Galloway who took 82nd place in a time of 21:57 and Brandon Rivas-Gramajo who took 156th place in a time of 23:30.
