Catarina Anzalone's four hits leads GCC Softball to 13-5 win over Rio Hondo College Jan. 28

In the first true road game of the year, the Vaqueros softball team continues to show they are going to be a force to be reckoned with as they took on the home Roadrunners of Rio Hondo College on January 28th. Freshman outfielder Catarina Anzalone collected a season-high four hits, scored twice and drove home a run. Sophomore middle infielders Tati Pisa and Desiree Guzman combined to go six for ten with four runs driven in to go along with three runs scored and tripled once. Freshman center fielder Azusena Lopez collected two hits with a double and three runs scored. Freshman catcher Isabelle Mendoza had two hits including a triple, while returning first baseman Breanna Payne doubled in the win.

Freshman pitcher Annaliese Ruiz isn't just getting it done in the circle for Glendale. Ruiz had two doubles, scored two runs and even stole home to score the 11th run of the game. Ruiz went five strong innings in the circle - with a season-high seven strikeouts on four hits and two runs earned to help the Vaqs improve to 4-1 overall after a 13-5 win.

Coming up for the Vaqs, they will have a five game home stand - beginning on February 4 against East LA at 2:30; February 6 against Oxnard at 2:30; February 7 against West Hills Coalinga for a doubleheader starting at noon and will wrap it all up on February 8 against San Bernardino Valley at 12. All games are scheduled for the Glendale Sports Complex, but rain is in the forecast for these days - so check our website for the latest updates in changes to the schedule.
