GCC Women's Basketball Clinches WSC East Title with 61-51 win over Victor Valley

A season to remember for the GCC Women's Basketball Team continued Tuesday night with a 61-51 win over Victor Valley College. The win was the 21st for the Lady Vaqs this season and 10th straight to clinch the WSC East Title with a conference mark of 9-0 and a 21-4 overall mark and a No. 11 ranking in the CCCWBCA poll.

Once again as they have all season, the opposition at times countered the dynamic duo of sophomores Sylvia Vartazarian and Cheyenne Jankulovski but they could not sustain the containment as Vartazarian led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, eight a piece on the offensive and defensive boards, while Jankulovski chipped in with 16 points, seven boards and three assists and hardly gave the visiting Rams a respite as she constantly pounded the ball up and down the court.

In all, nine players scored for the Lady Vaqs as their depth proved critical and should be a factor as they prepare to end the regular season with a road game against the defending conference champions from L.A. Valley College Friday at 7 pm. The CCCAA playoff pairings will be announced this weekend with Glendale in a prime spot to host a first round contest March 1-2.
