
GCC Women's Basketball sets school record with 23rd win; 70-48 over Canyons
On a night when the GCC Women's Basketball Team won it's school record 23rd game of the season, they also got one game closer to back to back
WSC South Title with a 70-48 win over College of the Canyons Wednesday Feb. 12 in the Verdugo Gym.
Leading just 30-19 in the half, the Lady Vaqs poured it on the in the final 20 minutes as they scored 40 points shooting 41.2 percent from the field for the game and knocking down eight three pointers. Glendale even out rebounded the visiting Cougars 37-35 with Jada Aldana leading the team with 10 and Vicky Oganyan adding nine. Gloria Bianchi and Zoe Rouse were high scorers for GCC with 15 points each with Polina Kovaleva chipping in with 11 and Penelopi Trieu adding 10 points. Rouse added six assists and Oganyan added five steals.
Now 23-2 and 10-1 in WSC play, GCC hits the road Saturday Feb. 15 to play at Antelope Valley College at 5 pm. They hold a one game lead over AV and L.A. Valley with two games left to play for the 2019-20 WSC South Title.
