GCC Women's Basketball clinches at least a tie for WSC South Title, 69-59 over Antelope Valley
The long and winding road to back to back WSC South title took a significant turn Saturday for the GCC Women's Basketball Team as they beat Antelope Valley College 69-59 Feb. 15 to clinch at least a tie for the 2019-20 championship. The Lady Vaqs can clinch the title outright Wednesday Feb. 19 with a win at home against Santa Monica.
In typical Lady Vaqs style, the outside shot was key Saturday as GCC spread the floor with their perimeter shooting as Vicky Oganyan hit all five of her 3's for 15 points and 10 rebounds. Penelopi Trieu hit three 3's for nine of her 12 points and Zoe Rouse had two for six of her 12 points. Tess Oakley-Stilson led all scorers for GCC with 26 points including 12 of 16 free throws and Jada Aldana hauled in 10 boards.
Not only did the win improve Glendale's seasonal mark to 11-1 in WSC play and 24-2 overall but it marked the 80th career win for head coach Joel Weiss at GCC in just four years as coach.
