What a difference a month makes. On Dec. 18, 2021, the GCC Women's Basketball was 9-3 and poised to defend its back-to-back WSC titles with end of year games against Ventura and El Camino Colleges. But COVID concerns caused those end of year games to be postponed and the Lady Vaqs started off a delayed conference season with home losses to Bakersfield, 56-53 on Jan. 12 and a 60-51 loss to College of the Canyons on Jan. 15.

But the season outlook got quite a bit brighter Monday Jan. 17 when Glendale regrouped and responded positively with a 61-51 victory over visiting West L.A. College that saw the Vaqs find some scoring punch they have been missing and some defensive grit they had been lacking in the first two conference games as they improved to 10-5 overall 1-2 in WSC play with the win.

Jesni Cooper led Glendale with 23 points and seven rebounds including 10 points in the critical fourth quarter which both teams entered tied at 41-41. Point guard Vicky Oganyan found her shooting stroke by scoring 14 points as well as contributing four assists and three rebounds and helped her team's cause by hitting three, 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Glendale continues conference play this week at Antelope Valley College Wednesday Jan. 19 at 7 pm.
