GCC opens defense of WSC South Title with 95-45 win over Santa Monica Jan. 3; improves to 11-4 this season

In perhaps its most well played game of he year, the GCC women's Basketball Team opened defense of its Western State Conference Southern Division Title with a one-sided 95-45 win over host Santa Monica College Wednesday Jan. 3. The Lady Vaqs led 18-5 after the first quarter and 47-17 at the half and dominated the game by shooting 58 percent from the field and hit 16 three pointers and shot 48 percent from distance.

Glendale, which had 31 rebounds, 27 assists, 14 steals and three blocked shots as a team for the game displayed fine scoring balance with six players scoring in double figures led by reserve Megan Delgado with 16 points including four of six three pointers. Jesni Cooper added 12 points, Lysette Sepulveda had 11 and Maile Yamada, Tori Delacroix and Paola Gorgeiz each had 10 points. Hana Trieu led the team with five assists and Delacroix had seven rebounds.

GCC, which has won three straight WSC South Titles, opens home conference play Saturday Jan. 7 against West Los Angeles College in the Verdugo Gym at 3 pm
