A driving basket by Megan Delgado with one minute and 40 seconds left in the game gave the GCC Women's Basketball Team an 11-point lead against visiting Los Angeles Valley College Saturday Feb. 4 on its way to a critical 58-46 conference win. The double fake move by Delgado whipped the crowd into a frenzy as the WSC South rivals came into the game tied at 8-1 and now the Lady Vaqs hold a one game lead in conference and are 19-5 overall.

The tense atmosphere surrounding the battle of crosstown rivals was evident as GCC fell behind early in the first quarter before cutting the lead to 11-9 after the first 10 minutes. Valley expanded the lead to 18-9 early in the second stanza before Glendale outscored the visitors 13-2 to lead 22-20 at halftime. Delgado scored 15 points off the bench including three, 3-pointers to support the effort as Faith Boulanger paced the offense with 16 points, eight rebounds including six offensively, two steals and one blocked shot. Jesni Cooper had 10 points and four assists, Maile Yamada had eight points, seven rebounds and four assists and Tori Delacroix had seven points and six rebounds.

Glendale continues its pursuit of a fourth straight WSC South title with a home game Wednesday Feb. 8 against Bakersfield College at 5 pm and play at Citrus College Saturday Feb. 11 at 3 pm.
