After scoring 145 points and allowing just 60 in wins over El Camino College, 80-22 Dec. 27 and Irvine Valley College, 65-38 Dec. 28, the GCC Women's Basketball Team looks primed to defend its string of five straight WSC South Titles when conference play starts Jan. 8. They are 10-3 overall and have won five straight games and are ranked seventh in CCCWBCA state rankings.
In the win over El Camino, Andrea Hurtado led GCC in scoring with 19 points off the bench and had three steals. Shushan Krikorian added 14 pts and Shadel Ffrench had a game high 12 rebounds. Against Irvine Valley in the third meeting of the year against the Lasers, Malia Ulery led GCC with 13 points, six assists and five rebounds and Shadel French had 12 rebounds, eight points and three blocks. Janelly Portillo added nine points and six rebounds.
Glendale opens up WSC play at home Wednesday Jan. 8 at 5 pm against West Los Angeles College in the Verdugo Gym and plays at College of the Canyons Saturday Jan. 11 at 3 pm.
