Women's soccer remains undefeated at home with a 4-2 victory against West LA. After shaking off a 7-0 loss to LA Pierce College, the Lady Vaqs looked to regroup and move on from that tough loss last week. As the team moved onto the second league game of the season, the Lady Vaqs knew the competition was only going to get tougher and tougher so they needed to step up their game. Tonight the team just did that. In the first half, GCC started off slow, for the first five minutes of the game possession was mostly controlled by West LA. Within minutes Glendale counterattacked and Sophomore Haley sarofski scored at the 7' minute mark to put the team up 1-0. This would be only be the first of many from Tsarofski as she would go on to score three more times one a the 19' minute the others at the 28' and the 34' minute of the first half. A large help for Tsarofski came from Freshman Sarina Bedikian as she assisted three of the four goals scored in the first half. As the Lady Vaqs came out of the second half they began playing to complacent. West LA scored at the 63' minute mark to cut the lead to 4-1. As the game continued on the team still kept the same pressure up, unfortunately West LA got a lucky break
and was awarded a free kick from a foul committed 25 yards out from the box. The shot was going high but took a last dive from the wind and went through the stretched arms of goalkeeper
Joceline Castaneda-Tapia. West LA cut the lead now to 4-2 and looked they were about to go on a late run. Fortunately the Lady Vaqs held on to the victory and this puts the team's record at 3-1-0 in the month of October. Next week the Women's soccer travels to their toughest opponent this season Santa Monica College. "I definitely think we can compete with them as long as we don't let our guard down but for now we are just going to take it game by game. Overall I do believe they are the best team we will face this season". Said Tsarofski, when asked what she thinks the team can do to contain Santa Monica. The team will look to fight har and pull out a victory on the road.
