GCC Women's Soccer continues to struggle; play of goalie Jasmine Serpas stands out

The collateral damage of not playing competitive soccer the past two years in 2020-21 due to Covid in 2020 and a lack of players in 2021 has put the Glendale College Women's Soccer Team at a distinct disadvantage. They have scored just one goal this season in a 2-1 season opening loss to Imperial Valley College on August 26 and have been shutout for seven straight games by the combined score of 69-0.

But neither one-sided losses or a depleted lineup have discouraged the Lady Vaqs as they continue to give it their all despite an 0-8 record with a team of players short on playing experience but long on desire.

In particular, the play of freshman goalie Jasmine Serpas stands out as she is third in the state with 74 saves in goal and second in the Western State Conference with 42. She withstood a barrage of shots against Citrus College, saving 21 of the 31 that came her way and helped Glendale trail only 4-0 at the half before falling to the visiting Owls 10-0.

Now 0-4 in WSC, the Lady Vaqs play at Bakersfield College at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and host West L.A. College at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
