WSC Relays Recap

The Glendale Track & Field teams completed their second meet last Friday at the Western State Conference Relays at West Los Angeles College. This is one of the only meets during the season where the focus of races are relays to go along with the field events. On the men's side the 4x400 relay team would take 3rd place with a time of 3:29.10. The 4x800 relay team would feature the distance squad which would carry them to a 1st place finish with a time of 8:14.41. The men's Distance Medley Relay team would have two teams, which placed 2nd and 3rd with times of 10:37.67 and 10:42.80, respectively. In the field events, Hratch Abrahamian would have another PR in the high jump clearing 5'10.75," which would give him a 2nd place finish. Axel Menjivar took 2nd in the Pole Vault with a 12'9.5" jump. Dakarai Bell took 2nd place in the triple jump with a 42'3.5" leap. In the throw, Riley Center would take 3rd place in shot put (45'1") and 5th place in Hammer with another PR (138'8"). Pablo Gamez PR'd in the hammer throw with a toss of 134'6" and would finish 8th in the discus with a throw of 127'8" in his first meet back. Finally, Angel Giron (129'5"), Shaun Theiring (128'7"), and Steven Ruiz (125'8") would take 2,3,4 in the Javelin.

               On the Women's side, Phoebe Forsyth would be the highlight of the distance squad taking 2nd place in the 5000m run in a time of 18:44.13, finishing behind the reigning Cross Country State Champion. The 4x400 relay team would go on to take 4th place with a time of 4:21.06. In the field events, Elizabeth Switzer took 1st again in the Pole vault after clearing 11'5.75." In the long jump, Karolin Espana and Vanessa Chavez would take 7th and 8th place with jump of 14'1.25" and 14'1," respectively. Espana would also take 4th place (30'7.5") in the triple jump and Chavez would take 6th place (30'3"). Vanessa Portillo and Samantha Torres would highlight the women's throws in the Javelin. Portillo would take 2nd place in her first competition of the year with a toss of 96'7" and Torres would take 4th with a toss of 90'5." The team will travel to Moorpark College on the 21st for the first scoring meet of the season.
