Name: Elizabeth Switzer
GPA: 3.9
Major: Communications

Personal Background: While competing at GCC, in my first track meet on the team, I broke the school record in the women's pole vault by jumping 11'8." As a child, I always loved the feeling of flying; I loved the feeling of being in the air whether it meant riding Goliath at Six Flags or dismounting off the bars in gymnastics. From there, I found my desire for becoming a pilot. My grandfather was a pilot in the Navy, so I felt inspired by him to go pursue that dream. I received my private pilot's license on New Year's Day of 2020!

Handling the Pandemic: It was definitely hard to transfer from in person classes to classes on Zoom but I have finally gotten the hang of it. I was more upset that I couldn't compete and wasn't able to practice because I was starting to get into a groove when it came to competing. However, I kept working out and stayed in shape during the pandemic so I would be ready when everything opens and I can compete again.

GCC Experience: Being a student-athlete at GCC has been awesome! I have so many resources available for me that have helped me greatly. The training staff has been amazing and had helped me through an ankle injury that had really been bugging me. Overall, the support from GCC athletics has helped me as an athlete and a student.
