The Vaqueros took part in the Moorpark Invitational this past weekend, and they continued to improve with some excellent performances. In the 100m, Xavier Rojas finished with a time of 11.47 and 15th place, while Aaron Flores took 18th with a time of 11.65. In the 200m, Aaron Flores took 14th place with a time of 23.17. Others in the 200m included Renee Cedeno who took 17th with a time of 23.30, Xavier Rojas who finished with a 23.89, Sean Miller (24.28), Willie Mejia (25.35), and Kevin Valenzuela who finished in a time of 26.79. Renee Cedeno ran a PR in the 400m with a time of 51.66, as well as Sean Miller who finished with a time of 52.48 and Kevin Valenzuela who ran a 59.25. In the 800m, Julius Largaespada took 1st place with a time of 1:56.02, while Ezequiel Soto finished behind him in a time of 1:56.40. Kevin Vasquez (2:02.27), Abdiel Quero (2:03.65), Jeremiah Galloway (2:04.13), Alexander Ibarra (2:06.88), and Brandon Rivas-Gramajo (2:17.67) all had strong performances in the 800m as well. Julius Largaespada continues his dominance in the 1500m with another win in a time of 3:55.54. Also competing in the 1500m were Abdiel Quero (4:07.73), Kevin Vasquez (4:08.10), Jeremiah Galloway (4:15.58), and Brandon Rivas-Gramajo (4:38.78). Ezequiel Soto had a PR in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:57.10 and a 2nd place finish. In the field events, Kevin Gomez won the hammer with a throw of 46.01m and had a 11.06m toss in the shot put. Lincoln Guerrero had another PR in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.23m, while also throwing 30.39m in the discus. John Westwood threw 11.67m in the shot put for an 8th place finish, and a 9th place finish in the discus with a throw of 31.67m. Julius Dawoodtabar took 12th place in the discus with a 30.00m throw, and 14th place in the shot put with a 10.34m toss. Zaven Shakenians had a PR in the discus with a throw of 25.03m, while also throwing 8.22m in the shot put. In the javelin, Willie Mejia took 2nd place with a 40.97m throw, and Zaven Shakenians had a toss of 20.38m.

On the women's side, Destiny Lopez had a PR in the 800m with a 2nd place finish and a time of 2:19.56, which ranks her 8th in the state. She also won the 1500m with a time of 4:49.10, which ranks her 6th in the state for the event. Samantha Medrano took 4th place in the 800m with a time of 2:30.18. She also had a PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:59.22. Norma Martinez had a PR in both the 800m (2:40.60) and the 1500m (5:27.34). Also running a PR in both the 800m and 1500m was Daniela Ponce-Barban, who finished the 800m with a time of 3:05.01 and the 1500m with a time of 6:24.72. In the field events, Kaylyn Guerra had a huge PR in the discus with a toss of 39.40m, which ranks her 8th in the state for the event. She also had a PR in the hammer with a toss of 35.54m. Vanessa Portillo won the javelin with a toss of 30.97m. The track team will host the 6th Annual Vaquero Invitational next week, with the hammer and javelin being contested at El Camino College on Friday, April 7. The rest of the events will be contested at Glendale on Saturday, April 8.
