Destiny Lopez and Julius Largaespada earn All-American honors at state track and field championships May 19-20 in Modesto; Four GCC Athletes earn podium finishes as 2022-23 team sports season ends for GCC Athletic Teams.

The track and field team concluded their 2023 season this past weekend at the CCCAA State Championships. All four athletes had podium finishes with three individual All-American performances. Julius Largaespada was runner-up and an All-American in the 1500m with a personal best time of 3:51.54. He also took 9th in the 800m with a time of 1:57.92. Destiny Lopez had All-American performances in both the 1500m where she took 3rd in a time of 4:39.49, as well as the 5000m where she took 4th with a personal best time of 17:49.56. In the throwing events, Vanessa Portillo took 5th place in the javelin with a toss of 33.70m. Kevin Gomez took 8th place in the hammer with a lifetime best throw of 48.99m.
