GCC Women take first, men third in WSC Preview Meet

The Women's Cross Country teams continue to fight as they run tough races. They recently completed their third race of the season at the SoCal Preview race as they faced off against teams they will see in the SoCal Championship race later in the season. The lady Vaqueros finished 1st with a total of 77 points beating Saddleback who had a total of 82 points, while the men Vaqueros finished 3rd with a total of 104 points, only 14 points behind San Diego Mesa and El Camino. Both the men and women ran well and fought throughout the races and continue to show they will not give up without a fight.

The lady Vaqs were led by sophomore Jennifer Perez-Cazarez (18:18.6) finishing 3rd and freshman Noemi Apreza (19:00.6) who finished 7th, followed by sophomore Daisy Romero (19:29.0) who finished 17th. Sophomore Genesis Siam-Alvarez (19:44.3) and freshman Phoebe Forsyth (20:00.4) followed to finish 23rd and 29th, with sophomore Jazmin Negro (20:24.9) and freshman April Fonseca (20:28.9) both of whom finishing 37th and 40th. The lady Vaqs had seven personal records this race, so things are looking up for the women.

The men Vaqs were led by sophomores Marcelo Ramirez (20:14.4) and Akol Malong (20:36.2) finishing 5th and 12th with freshman Alberto Serrano (20:49.4) finishing 21st who continues to step it up. Freshman Moses Merino (21:06.1) had a huge day to step up as the fourth man to finish 32nd, and sophomore Carlos Rivera (21:08.7) finished 34th as the fifth guy. Freshman Kevin Keller (21:08.9) and Spencer Geck (21:12.1) finished 35th and 41st.

The Vaqueros will be racing Saturday, September 22nd at the Coyote Challenge at Cal State San Bernardino.
