In a matchup of two of the top ranked teams in Southern California Jan. 3-Feb. 2, the GCC Baseball Team took one of three games against Mt. San Antonio College. The Mounties took the opener 10-6 Thursday Jan. 30 and then Glendale won its home game 11-5 Jan. 31 and Mt. SAC won the final game, 7-1 on Feb.1. The Mounties are ranked No. 6 in the CCCBCA Southern California rankings and the 3-2 Vaqs are ranked No. 11
David Lozano had a huge week for GCC getting nine hits in 13 at bats in the series against Mt. SAC including three hits including a double, two RBI and one run scored in the 11-5 home win at Stengel Field. Max Price also had three hits in the win including a three-run homer and three RBI and Alex Bang, Ethan Pena and Jackson Lyons all had two hits each with Bang and Pena hitting doubles and Lyons hitting a triple and James Harrington also hitting a double and driving in two runs. Matt Cuccias was the starting pitcher and went six innings and reliever Maximo Newhart got the win in his one inning of work and John Trainor and Luis Fernandez also took the mound.
Glendale starts a three-game series against Chaffey College on the road Tuesday Feb. 4 at 2 pm and host Chaffey Wednesday Feb. 5 at 2 pm at Stengel Field and conclude the series Friday Feb. 7 at Chaffey at 2 pm.
