Throughout the state of California, there may be no more fiercer rivals on a basketball court in women's basketball than Glendale and Los Angeles Valley Colleges. Not only is GCC's former head coach Monica Hang the head of the Lady Monarchs program, but both schools have combined to win the last four Western State Conference East Titles, Valley in 2016-17 and 2017-18 and Glendale in 2018-19 and 2019-2020.

So, Monday's game at Valley had much on the line for both teams but it was GCC that dominated the game in the scoring column and on the boards as the ran away with a 51-32 victory to improve to 3-2 in WSC play and 12-5 overall.

Freshman Kayla Wrobel had a monster game for the Lady Vaqs with a school record 20 rebounds, 11 off the offensive glass, to go with 11 points, five assists and three blocked shots. Freshman Dyani Del Castillo led Glendale in scoring with 13 points and added 11 rebounds and sophomore point guard Vicky Oganyan helped GCC maintain a 50-26 advantage in rebounds with 10 boards herself.

Glendale and Valley face off again next week at GCC Wednesday Feb. 2 at 7 pm but the Lady Vaqs first play road games at Citrus this Wednesday at 7 pm and at West Los Angeles Saturday January 29 at 5 pm.
