Just a few weeks ago, the GCC Women's Basketball Team's chances of defending its back-to-back Western State Conference South Titles looked in serios doubt as they dropped consecutive games to Bakersfield and Canyons to start conference play 0-2. But that sluggish start is but a distant memory now as the Lady Vaqs won their sixth straight conference game Wednesday Feb. 2 with a 56-53 victory over visiting L.A. Valley College at home in the Verdugo Gym.

GCC is now in first place in the WSC East at 6-2 and is 15-5 overall with a one game lead over Bakersfield and Canyons whom they well face in consecutive road games Feb. 5 and 9. But it was the visiting Monarchs that gave the Lady Vaqs all they could handle Wednesday despite a slow start in the game, they took the lead late in the fourth quarter before two free throws each by Vicky Oganyan and Jesni Cooper iced the game for Glendale.

Kayla Wrobel and Cooper led GCC with 21 points each with Wrobel also pulling down a game high 14 rebounds and Oganyan had a stat line of seven rebounds, six points and three assists.

Glendale continues conference play at Bakersfield Saturday Feb. 5 at 5 pm.
